The Multimedia & Communications Laboratory (MCLab) was established in 1998. It is located at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (DIEE) of the University of Cagliari and is affiliated with the CNIT, the Italian University Consortium for Telecommunications. The Research Group of MCLab is made of around 20 people, including faculty members, research fellows and Ph.D. students.
MCLab is active in basic and applied research as well as development, in several industrial fields. These activities are mainly funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research, the Sardinian Regional Government, the Italian Research Council, the EC and by private companies (such as: Telit, Ericsson, IBM, STMicroelectronics, Tiscali).
The competence of the team is focused on data networking, multimedia processing and transmission systems with particular attention to Internet of Things architectures, smart objects communications, multimedia networking, multimedia content editing, still-picture and video coding, QoE (Quality of Experience), and cognitive radio. The mission is to carry out international research and innovation for the smart network and transmission systems and to conduct technological transfer to the regional and national territory.
Numerous publications are held by the team across many fields.
